31!

I initially stated that I would post once a day for the month of October…which would mean that this would end tonight. I don’t know about you, but I am really liking these posts, so I’m going to keep at it!

Thank you to Chris of Reverieblog, and Cindy of Quaint Handmade for all of their generous camera help today. They truly are experts in their field!!! With all this camera talk I’ve decided I need to get a better photo printer as well. If anyone would like to offer their suggestions for a printer which prints professional quality photos, please comment or email me as I would greatly appreciate it!

Happy Pumpkin Day

I’m trying to be a good sport today, with the loss of the camera and all. To make matters worse when I went off to bed last night, I looked out my bedroom window and my trunk was open. Nobody opened the trunk, and there was storm water pouring in. I don’t know what I did yesterday into the whee morning, but my karma hasn’t been the greatest. Well, I guess things could be worse, because I normally DON’T look out my bedroom window at night. I hope my new car won’t smell like mildew when it dries.

Not A Happy Camper!

I’ve been trying to take pictures of the Canadian Honkers across the field (from my house) for the last week or so. These beautiful birds land there every fall. The photos I initially took turned out blurry, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get a clear shot. Last night they were closer than usual. I went into my neighbors field, and underneath the barbed wire fence to take a few photos. I was so happy with the way they turned out, clear as can be, with purple and orange sky behind them.

I didn’t give my camera another thought until tonight when my mom was cutting the most beautiful bouquets for a local shop, where she occasionally sells her mixed floral bouquets. I looked in the normal spot for my trusty powershot but it wasn’t there. We all searched high and low, while grandma panicked and repeatedly wanted to know what we were up to. I gave up as it was time to take the flowers figuring I’d find it when we got back.

About ten minutes ago I thought to go outside and try to retrace my steps once again.  I remembered that I had set a magazine on one of the chairs which had a few things that I was planning on showcasing on my blog next week.  A mean and evil light bulb went off when I decided to check if I had set my camera on top of it. Low and behold I found both!  Completely soaked. The camera will not even turn on. Where did all this rain come from? We weren’t expecting anything until the weekend!!!

I read The Secret and the authors tell you to think positive and not worry about things that could happen. This my friends is why I would worry on a daily basis, to make sure things like this never happen. I never fathomed my camera frying in a rain filled thunderstorm!

Whelp, this means I have to get a new camera. To those of you who know about my existing etsy shop, please tell your friends, family, coworkers, etc!!!! :)

Any tips on what my next camera should be?

Needless to say, I will be postponing the opening of my shop until I can take photos of my new merchandise.

How To Open An Etsy Shop

My current shop on etsy, has a name I don’t care for. It’s something I came up with on a whim and just went with it because I was eager to start selling. If I’d really thought about it I would have gone in another direction. Perhaps I would have named it “dolce” since that’s Candy in Italian. Who knows?

Now that I’m working on my photos (I started printing them last night!) I have thought about what I’d name it? I googled “etsy, store, name” and it brought me to the storque page on etsy. Storque is etsy’s version of a blog, and it’s a fantastic one I might add!

If you’re thinking of starting a new shop here are some fantastic tips directly from the storque!

  • “Choose a name that is easy to remember and spell.” For instance, I’ve thought about going with either my first name that I never go by- Candace, and my middle name, or Candace and my last name. I could do Candi and my mn or Candi and my ln. But than you’ve got the whole spelling issue. Funny story, I never spelled Candi that way until I started my internship at one of the local television stations in the sports department. I was talking to the guys about all the disturbing things people say about the name Candy, and they asked if I spelled it like an actual Candy? So I thought then and there that I’d change it. For the remainder of the internship, I was known as Candy with an i. With that being said, I have no idea what I should name it and what would be easy for people to remember. I could always spell it like Ashlee Simpson and put two ee’s at the end, and really be unique? Candee? Kandii? Candie? Hmmmmmmmmm! (more…)

Berkus Does HSN!

It’s no secret that I love Nate Berkus. I blame him for my new love of design, and my fascination with buying a piece of coral for my shelf! Did you know that my man, Nate is selling furniture and home decor on the Home Shopping Network? That’s right, you can buy Nate on HSN! Here are a few photos from his fabulous new line!

Lord Won’t You Buy Me A Mercedes Benz

While I’ve always been concious of making the right decision to not offend people and keep myself in line, I was never necessarily good at making the smart decision. At times I wanted something so bad that I was impatient and often regretted things I’ve bought.

I was wise in leasing my car a couple of years ago because I overpaid my mileage and got money in return this time around. I don’t know about you but the thought of hanging out with car sales people (whom I like to call vultures) who are trying to take my hard earned money makes me cringe. I was “robbed” over five years ago when I leased my jetta, thankfully I have gained courage and gotten wise since. I’ve heard on the news that now isn’t the right time to buy a car, but let me tell you it is. I had a 2007 Mercedes I leased, but because I live in a rural area, I drive a ton and had too much mileage. I would have liked to have kept it, but purchasing or releasing it would have been a waste. I was sad to let her go, but I got a terrific deal, which included a 100,000 mile warranty. Seeing as I am not a fan at all of the new Mercedes body style (sorry to offend anyone) I decided to stick with the same year. I leased my 2007 initially in August of 2006 and my new car was purchased in May of 2007. It’s a little bit younger and there are a few changes. Overall I love it! In the past I wouldn’t have cared about warranties, gap insurance and stuff like that, but after having an unpredictable vw which sucked my money and brought on anxiety, I feel smarter making decisions.

Is it selfish to hope my old car doesn’t sell? :(

I Needed This

Last night, I was feeling sorry for myself over things that are beyond my control. I was lucky enough to have a good chat with my mom who put everything into perspective and not worry about people and things that I can’t change. I happened to hear this quote on David Letterman and it just stuck. It was exactly what I needed to hear…………………

Want Of The Day

Thanks to Apartment, Tbd, etc I have been looking on craiglist daily in hopes of finding a bamboo chippendale/hollywood regency chair for my bedroom. I have yet to find one, but found this gorgeous tufted chair! It’s $125, I would love to have it…but in this unpredictable economy I can’t fathom spending this at the moment. I figure I’d post this as if it was my inspiration board, and wish it my way instead (yes, I love The Secret.)

I’m working diligently, I mean my MOM is working diligently on fixing my vintage parlor. I bought the paint stripper to fix the top, and my poor Mama got tipsy from the fumes j/k! All that’s left is sanding it and painting it. I initially was going to paint it light pink, but that was before I purchased the new bed. It’s going to stay white, and will be converted into my desk, so I can get going on my new shop! :)

FYI~

For all you Sacramentan’s/Norcal folk my light pink vintage iron bed is now for sale. I paid over $300 for it less than 5 months ago, and am asking for the best offer. I have photos posted of it on my blog, and also on flickr. I’d be happy to email them to you!

Candi’s Favorite Things!

I was tagged by my new buddy, Piper of Steak & Cakes, to list some of my favorite things. Her blog is fantastic….please check it out!

CLOTHING SHOP

As a recovering shop-a-holic, spend-a-holic, I don’t shop much anymore. I will state that once I start making money, I plan to shop at my home away from home during college (which is the reason I can’t shop anymore)

I can’t forget about Etsy, since I’ve learned so much from it since I started about 8 months ago. For those of you who don’t know, I’m working on opening up a shop very, very soon with my photos as note cards/post cards or for those of you who want to buy them as prints. Please stay tuned!!!

City:

The city I love the most hands down is Lake Tahoe…which is in both California and Nevada! This was my favorite place growing up. I realized at the young age of 10 that I wanted to be a reporter, thanks to all the practice of chasing down celebrities and conducting my own interviews! Each year my mom and I go to the celebrity golf tournament. Mostly to see Sir Charles, but mainly to have a good time! This year Tony Romo and Lucas Black threw me their golf balls! Needless to say I’m already counting down to next July!

Emerald Bay

Emerald Bay

I love Tony Romo, it's just a joke. I'd never mock him!Haha I love Tony, I wouldn’t mess with him!

Sweets

I tend to love sour things far more than anything sweet, but when I do have sweets I love turtles-chocolate with nuts. I am happy with a Hershey’s with Almonds! I love caramel covered marshmallows too!

Drink:

I like water, chamomile tea when I’m stressed, dr. pepper, and iced tea. Drinks with alcohol: bud light with limeade, margaritas, and a key lime martini from a restaurant called Centros in Sacramento.

MUSIC:

I love it all from classic country, to new country, oldies, rock, classic rock, hip hop, to elevator music. I love everything! A few favorites are

Sweet Caroline bam bam bam good times never felt so good, so good, so good...

Sweet Caroline bam bam bam good times never felt so good, so good, so good...

Keith Urban concert on my birthday!

TV

I don’t really watch tv. I turn on The Hills, but I can’t even get myself to be fully engaged in an episode. I don’t know what’s happening to me! If I watch tv it’s usually the news or if I know somebody I like is going to be on a program. Wait a sec I almost forgot, I’m really liking Kath and Kim and I watch The Soup.

Workout:

I’m thankful to have a fast metabolism, and I don’t work out.

Pastries:

Red velvet and fruit basket cake are my favorites!

Coffee:

Before I start please don’t think that I’m anal because of my drink. I have a weak stomach that can’t handle more than one espresso shot.

From Starbucks I get a tall caramel macchiatto with extra caramel and whipped cream in a venti cup. I used to have to say I’d like venti caramel macchiatto with a single shot, decaf, ex. caramel and whipped cream…but thanks to a nice guy at Starbucks recently I only have to say tall ” ” ” ” in a venti cup…and it saves me money :)

I have to tag two people but there are three lovely blogs I’d like to tag!

Yay Weekend!

I am so ready for the weekend even if it means spending it at the dealership :( My lease is up at the beginning of November, so I’m praying everything goes well. I know things could be worse, so I’ll gladly waste a few hours browsing cars. Hope you had a great Friday!

This week has been long and stressful. So I figured I’d quote my idol, since Sir Charles always puts things into perspective and me in a better mood!

Office Space

While browsing through one of my favorite websites/magazines, Traditional Home , I came across photos of make up artist, Bobbi Brown’s office. The saying ‘everything happens for a reason’ rings true for Brown, as she wouldn’t have this gorgeous space, had fire not ruined her Soho office in Manhattan. Bobbi along with her husband, developer, Steven Plofker designed this gorgeous space in New Jersey.

“The combination of old and new is like wearing jeans with holes and gorgeous fancy shoes,” says Bobbi. “The overall effect is a fun, exploratory space that’s totally creative.” Bobbi Brown”

A tiny garden outside the office serves as a great way for employees to relax. Another perk would be the stylist, manicurist and office snacks, Brown provides for her employees.

Special Request

It’s a rarity when my mom asks me to post something on my blog, but when she does it’s something of great importance. One of her dear friends just found out she has Cancer and will be operated on at 12pm tomorrow. If you don’t mind praying for her at noon tomorrow, we would all greatly appreciate it. Many thanks as always!

Here are a few of the many photos I took today while out watering. Hope you are enjoying your day! All my best!!!

I’m A QUIRK!

Visual Vamp tagged me a few weeks ago to list 6 quirky things about myself. I’d like to first and foremost apologize for taking so long to complete this!

1) I’m such a gemini. At times I can go with the flow while other times, I have to be in control.

2) I hate feet, they gross me out. I appreciate all they do for me, but I hate looking at them. I get grossed out when people touch their feet in front of me. YUCK! Babies feet are okay, but other than them….please don’t touch them in front of me!

3) I am afraid of being trapped…in life and in general!

4) I am not the cleanest person in the world, but my closet is organized by size, length, color and season!

5) Every night I say dios le bendiga to my grandma…and won’t leave until she says the same thing to me. I always feel better knowing that I’m being blessed!

6) I run from clutter.

I’m tagging:

She’s Lump

A Bird In The Hand

Little House On Green

A Southern Girl In The City

Grayson: A Different Shade Of Grey

Red Otter

and since I don’t play by the rules at times…I’d like to add one more person

The Everyday Adventures of Me in the City

If anybody else would like to play along please be my guest…you all know I wanted to tag all of you!

Loving Purple

I think I’ve finally got it! The other night I was looking for bedding when I spotted this pillow:

Nordstrom

I knew right then and there that I wanted to decorate my bedroom in a range of various plum colors. After finding this pillow, I knew that the bedding I had been eying would be too intricate for the pillow and dropped it. I’m kind of glad I did seeing as white wouldn’t work with my lab!

The other day I was browsing Design Sponge, and just fell in love with the entire site. Last night I picked the perfect night to browse once again…seeing as I found these!

Photos courtesy of Design Sponge

I had never heard of Caryn Grossman, but I am in love with her work! My bedroom floor already looks like this…so I’m pretty excited that I won’t have much work to do :) All that’s left is finding out where I can find that comforter, and I’m set! I love these colors, because I can always add turquoise or my new favorite yellow to the mix.

Courage

I’m going to finish this day and be done with it!!!

It’s A Start!

If you’ve watched Dress My Nest you know that the person looking to get his/her home redecorated/overhauled has to pick a few of his/her favorite accessories from their wardrobe or any favorite they might have, and they incorporate that into their living space.

Since I’m in the beginning phase, I thought about everything in my house that I absolutely love and get the best compliments from. It didn’t take me long and hard to realize I love STUDS! I mean that’s a given-hot ones, tall ones, funny ones, dark haired…ok, ok off topic. Here’s what I found :)

Here are my Isabella Fiore handbags that I absolutely LOVE!!!!

I just realized my little bag has studs too. I’ve had this for close to two years…didn’t even notice!

And my cute shoes! I just looked in my closet….and I found more shoes with studs. It’s an evil addiction I have going on here!!!

If you couldn’t tell, I am in love with this bench that I prop everything on top of. I would like to add some *glam* to my room, as this piece is fab!

Oh and I’m also on a mission. I was thinking of doing all white bedding, but having a large labrador retriever as my roommate makes that rather impractical. I know, I know, I know I say I’m not obsessed with The Hills…but I just love this ribbon quilt Lauren has! In the photo with Audrina it’s shown as her bedding, and in the photo with Lauren, it’s displayed as a pillow. Brocade Home is no longer up and running :( so I have no idea where to find this bedding anymore. Any ideas??????

I’m glad I have finally chosen my favorite accessories….now is the tough part, incorporating them all! I don’t know how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any takers????? :)

Hope you’re enjoying your Monday. I’m watching The Hills and thinking I need a life lol!
